Currently trying to install Gentoo Linux on my Toshiba Satellite 1415-S173 laptop. I’m trying for a dual-boot with Windows XP. Since I don’t have any money to buy a program like Partition Magic I tried to find a free way to partition the hard drive. I found a way to do it but it meant to reinstall Windows completely and use
fdisk
to resize the Windows NTFS partition from taking up the whole disk to just a portion of the disk leaving room for Linux. I backed up my Windows files and dove in head first into the installation.

Unfortunately I had to install Gentoo at Stage 3 since installing through a network was out of the question for the time being. I just wanted a stable working Linux and figured that I could rebuild and compile starting at a stage 1 later once I get a hang of the system.
